A Night of Nostalgia on the Sunrise Express - Osaka to Tokyo

By Martin Tan (Singapore)

My wife and I recently had the pleasure of taking the Sunrise Express from Osaka to Tokyo, and I must say, it brought back fond memories of our younger days. We had spent the evening enjoying Osaka's vibrant nightlife, which, despite the years, still made us feel youthful. After a delightful dinner at a cozy restaurant, we decided to visit the HEP FIVE ferris wheel. There’s something magical about seeing the city’s neon lights from up there, followed by a stop at the nearby beer garden—just the right touch to relive the carefree moments of our travels across Europe in the past.

(Didn't manage to get a good photo of the Ferris Wheel, so here's a stock image of it)

It felt nostalgic, like those nights we used to spend on overnight trains in France and Germany. The excitement of boarding late at night, the hum of the train as we settled into our berth, and the sense of adventure in the air all came rushing back. But this time, there was something unique and special about Japan's Sunrise Express.

The team at Sunrise Express Tickets had made the process so smooth that it felt like all we had to do was show up. Before we knew it, we were on board, settling in for the night. There’s something quite special about taking a sleeper train. The gentle rocking of the carriage as you fall asleep, the soothing sounds of the tracks, and the anticipation of waking up somewhere new all blend together into an unforgettable experience.

The highlight, however, was waking up at dawn to witness the sun rising over the Pacific. It’s no wonder they call this train the Sunrise Express—the name truly lives up to its promise. The sight of the golden light reflecting off the ocean as the train hugged the coast was nothing short of breathtaking. We quietly soaked in the view from our compartment, feeling fortunate to witness such beauty.

Arriving at Tokyo Station early in the morning was another treat. Before catching our flight back to Singapore, my wife and I took a peaceful walk around the Imperial Palace. The crisp morning air and the tranquility of the palace grounds made for the perfect way to wrap up our journey. It was a lovely contrast to the hustle and bustle of the city, giving us time to reflect on our adventure before heading home.

For anyone considering the Sunrise Express, I highly recommend it. It’s more than just a train ride—it’s a window into Japan's soul, a gentle journey through its landscapes, and a reminder that travel is as much about the journey as it is about the destination.
